Community Outreach

HCIM is committed to improving the communities where we live, work, and visit. As we travel for meetings and corporate events, we partner with local charitable service organizations to support the work they do. Corporate responsibility is ingrained in our culture and we all enjoy these opportunities to serve.

A Kid’s Place

Giving back to the communities where we live and work is a cornerstone of the HCIM Culture. During our recent visit to Tampa, Colleagues spent the afternoon at A Kid’s Place painting bathrooms, decorating for an upcoming party, working in their donation room, and even provided a little support in their office.

New Haven Summer Social

In August 2018, HCIM Colleagues gathered from across the country for corporate meetings and our annual giveback event in Houston, TX. This year, we hosted a summer social for residents of Star of Hope’s New Haven program, a permanent housing and support ministry for those diagnosed with mental illness and/or substance abuse disorder. Our Colleagues served up pizza and salad, along with a full ice cream bar, an exciting bingo game with prizes, a raffle, arts and crafts stations, and a photo booth. This lively event was the highlight of our week, as we were all moved by the sheer joy and enthusiasm of the residents.

Today’s Woman Foundation

A former administrator for one of our SymKey® clients helped to found what would later become the Today’s Woman Foundation. This non-profit group helps women with cancer to manage their health through education and support. Their Bundles of Hope project distributes hand-painted boxes containing special gifts for these brave women as a way of providing them comfort and hope. At a business unit meeting in Houston, HCIM Colleagues crafted breast cancer awareness rings, sewed together hats, and assembled ribbon pins for this cause. HCIM also donated fuzzy socks complete with embroidered pink ribbons. The breast cancer awareness pins were also distributed to local medical staff to increase awareness for the fight for a cure.

Mountain Lake Conservancy

HCIM’s 2017 All Colleague Meeting brought our team to Pembroke, Virginia’s Mountain Lake Lodge, the picturesque site where Dirty Dancing was filmed. The lodge sits atop a 2,600-acre preserve and is part of the Mountain Lake Conservancy, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the property’s natural resources and beautiful landscape. All profits from the hotel go directly to supporting their mission to continue the lodge’s legacy, which dates back to 1851. We put our artistic skills to work decorating birdhouses for the conservancy and HCIM made an additional financial contribution to help care for this beautiful land.

CHIP Give Back

HCIM’s July 2017 Community Give Back event involved the Children’s Health Improvement Partnership (CHIP), which provides access to primary health care for pregnant women and families with children from newborns through 6 years old. Their nurses and case managers make house calls to provide healthcare support to disadvantaged families and educate parents to help them work toward self-sufficiency. Our colleagues and their families filled backpacks with school supplies for the preschool and kindergarten aged children who are part of CHIP’s New River Community Action organization. HCIM donated $1,000 in supplies and $2,500 to support this cause.

The Dell Children’s Medical Center

In April 2016, HCIM Colleagues met in Austin, Texas for the All Colleague Meeting. One of the team building activities was to assemble stuffed animals by completing a series of challenges in order to earn different accessories. We were then able to present the plush toys to The Dell Children’s Medical Center to be gifted to their patients. HCIM made a corporate donation to the medical center and the CEO personally made an additional contribution.

Austin Pets Alive

During the 2016 All Colleague Meeting, in addition to HCIM’s corporate financial contribution, individual team members came together and personally donated $1,500 to purchase much-needed supplies and gift cards for Austin Pets Alive. Austin Pets Alive addresses the needs of the most at-risk shelter animals to give them a second chance at adoption. This includes parvo puppies, unweaned kittens, and animals in need of additional medical and behavioral support.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County

In 2015, HCIM Colleagues boxed up 273 lbs. of food to donate to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, along with a check for $3,500 to provide meals for those in need. The Irvine, California based food bank feeds over 200,000 individuals per month and is also a member of the Feeding America organization. Several of HCIM’s Colleagues and their families serve at local food banks, so this was a cause close to our hearts.

Ozanam Inn

On October 4, 2014, two dozen of HCIM’s Colleagues and friends assembled in New Orleans at the Ozanam Inn to volunteer their time in service of the homeless men that reside at the historic shelter. We cooked meals, made beds, folded clothes, and cleaned house while learning about the shelter’s mission and programs. It was truly inspiring to see what great work was being done every day to help rehabilitate the homeless and transient men that frequent the shelter and to set them on the right path. The HCIM family was proud to have the opportunity to contribute both time and money to such a worthy cause.

Build-a-Bike

HCIM’s Colleagues worked together to build and donate five new bikes for children of the San Diego Boys and Girls Club as part of a teambuilding event in July 2013. HCIM Colleagues collaborated to solve puzzles and challenges in order to earn bicycle parts and then raced to assemble each team’s bike. It was an exciting event, but the best was yet to come. In what was a complete surprise orchestrated by The Leaders Institute® that had organized the event, four children from the Boys and Girls Club arrived to claim their bicycles. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
